Best airport hotels in Mumbai: near T2, T1 and Navi Mumbai

The airport belt, explained in five minutes
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport sits inside the city, not outside it, which is the fact that trips people up. Terminal 2 handles international and a large share of domestic flights and faces Sahar; Terminal 1 at Santacruz handles domestic and faces the Vile Parle side. The two terminals are roughly three kilometres apart by road and connected by a free inter-terminal shuttle, which takes 20 to 30 minutes with security formalities. If your itinerary mixes terminals, factor that in before you agree to a 90-minute connection.
Four hotel clusters serve the airport at different price and time points. The Sahar loop, which is literally across the road from Terminal 2. The Andheri East MIDC and Chakala belt, three to six kilometres out and the biggest inventory in the city. Vile Parle and the Western Express Highway shoulder, best for Terminal 1. And Navi Mumbai and Panvel, which are now in play thanks to the Atal Setu and the new airport at Ulwe. BKC deserves a mention as an airport hotel in disguise, at eight kilometres and 25 to 45 minutes.
The Sahar loop: pay for the ten-minute transfer
The handful of large five-stars inside the Sahar loop, including the long-standing ITC property on the Sahar road, are the only hotels where you can leave your room 75 minutes before an international departure and feel calm. Transfer time is eight to fifteen minutes, hotel shuttles are frequent, and the properties are built for it: 24-hour dining, arrival lounges, express check-in, soundproofing that genuinely works. Expect ₹9,000 to ₹16,000 a night midweek, more when a big convention lands at Nesco or the Jio World Convention Centre in BKC.
The value case is real if your flight leaves before 7am or lands after 11pm, because you buy back an hour of sleep and remove all traffic risk. What you do not buy is a neighbourhood. Sahar has no walkable street life at all, and dinner outside the hotel means a taxi. Skip this cluster if your flight is midday and your meetings are elsewhere: for the ₹6,000 premium over Andheri East, you would be paying purely for proximity you do not need. Also confirm which terminal your carrier uses, since terminal allocations shift.
Andheri East and MIDC: best value, most rooms
The corridor along Andheri Kurla Road, the MIDC estate and the roads around SEEPZ holds more branded hotel rooms than anywhere else in Mumbai, at ₹5,500 to ₹9,500 for a solid four-star with a pool, a gym and meeting rooms. Transfers to Terminal 2 run 15 to 25 minutes depending on where on the road you sit, and most hotels run scheduled shuttles. This is where I book a fly-in, fly-out working day: cheap enough to be sensible, close enough to be safe, and surrounded by offices so the whole ecosystem runs on business travel rhythms.
Two warnings. First, Andheri Kurla Road can go from 15 minutes to 45 without warning, especially during metro and flyover works, so build a buffer and ask reception for their honest read on the morning you leave. Second, the road environment is industrial and unlovely, with narrow or missing footpaths, so evening walking is not a plan. If you want dinner outside the hotel, head 20 minutes west to Lokhandwala or Versova. Andheri station on the Western Line and metro interchange is a useful escape hatch when the roads seize up entirely.
Vile Parle and the Terminal 1 shoulder
If your flights are domestic and use Terminal 1, sleeping on the Vile Parle side rather than Sahar saves you the cross-airport crawl. Hotels along the Western Express Highway shoulder and Nehru Road sit five to twelve minutes from Terminal 1 and run ₹5,000 to ₹11,000. The added benefit is a real neighbourhood: Vile Parle East has the Mithibai and Parle College belt, some of the best cheap vegetarian food in the western suburbs, and the famous Anand Stall vada pav within reach for a pre-flight snack at around ₹25.
Vile Parle also connects. The Western Line station gets you to Churchgate in about 35 minutes on a fast train for well under ₹100 in first class, which no taxi can match at 6pm. The catch: aircraft noise is real on the approach side, so ask for a room away from the runway line, and the older hotels here have small rooms with tired bathrooms. For anything requiring a business floor or a big meeting room, cross to Andheri East or Sahar instead.
Navi Mumbai and Panvel: the new equation
Navi Mumbai International Airport at Ulwe has changed how the eastern side of the harbour works, and hotels around Panvel, Kharghar, CBD Belapur and Vashi are the natural bed base for it, at ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 for four-star rooms with big pools and generous parking. Panvel is the closest node by road; Belapur and Kharghar add better dining and the Central Park green space. Because airline operations at a new airport ramp in phases, confirm your terminal, your check-in cut-off and the road access route with the airline and airport operator before you book a hotel on assumption.
The Atal Setu is the other half of the story. The 21.8 km harbour crossing from Sewri to Chirle takes roughly twenty minutes with a car toll in the ₹250 range, which means a Navi Mumbai hotel is now sometimes closer in time to South Mumbai than an Andheri hotel is at 6pm. For a two-airport itinerary, or for anyone with meetings in Airoli, Ghansoli or Belapur plus a flight, this cluster is the sharpest value on the board. The catch is that Navi Mumbai still relies on cars and autos; it is not a walk-out-and-find-dinner environment after 10pm.
Timing, day rooms and what I would actually book
Mumbai traffic runs in bands: 7.30am to 11am inbound to the city, 5.30pm to 9.30pm outbound, and worse on Fridays and on any heavy rain day between June and September. For an international departure from Terminal 2, allow 3 hours at the terminal plus 30 minutes from Andheri East, 60 from BKC, 75 from Powai, and 90 from Colaba or Nariman Point. Domestic can shave an hour off the terminal time. Day-use rooms are widely available around the airport at ₹3,500 to ₹6,500 for six to eight hours, which beats a lounge for anything over five hours.
My picks in order: Andheri East for the standard business trip, because the ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 rate and 20-minute transfer is the right compromise. Sahar for any pre-dawn international departure, where the extra spend buys sleep. Vile Parle when the whole itinerary is Terminal 1 domestic. Navi Mumbai when your work or your flight is on that side of the harbour, since crossing twice a day is the single biggest waste of time available to a Mumbai visitor. Skip a South Mumbai hotel entirely if you have an early flight and no reason to be downtown.
